Tayler Brooks and I just got back from a quick visit to the Rio Bigal Biological Station, and I thought I would report some of our sightings. First off, let me say that we had a great time there, and the birding and forest were spectacular! I highly recommend a visit there to anyone interested in going. A lot more exploration remains to be done in the area. The reserve already had a list of over 400 (now 461), but we still managed to find 10 new species for their list. Who knows what else is waiting to be found!

«The Reserve is a very special place and a valuable refuge for an a great bird diversity. Bigal River Conservation Project’s team is doing an extremely important work for the Sumaco National Park buffer zone. We wish you good luck for the future and may the Project be a successful one.»

«A beautiful experience and scientifically productive time at the Rio Bigal Reserve. I came to sample biodiversity of saltids and found everything I’d hoped for and more. A surprisingly good representation of the lowland forest fauna for an elevation of around 1000 meters. The forest is pristine and full of marvels of all sorts, from monkeys to terrestrial flatworms, and the diversity of micro habitats is impressive. The camp was comfortable, well-run, with very good food, and a good work table for processing scientific specimens.»

«I have visited and worked at Rio Bigal four times now. It is one of the most scenic and biodiverse sites I have ever seen. This place holds some of the most unique flora and fauna in the world. I could return here every year and only record a small fraction of the biological biodiversity. This site is in need of support and protection and I am glad to be a part of this incredible conservation effort!«
